Scarborough took its name from a Yorkshire seaside town, so perhaps it was only a matter of time before a proper British bakery followed. Our Scarborough shop is the newest of our nine across Ontario, and it arrives with a simple promise for Toronto’s east end: the same handmade pies, the same butchery craft and the same well-stocked grocery shelves that have earned our family more than a thousand five-star reviews since we began in Cambridge in 2010.
Step inside and you’ll find the counter doing what it does best — golden steak and ale pies, flaky sausage rolls still warm from the oven, Eccles cakes, scones and proper pastries made the way they should be. Behind it sits our butchery range, carrying on the Crawford’s legacy: traditional bangers, back bacon, black pudding and haggis, prepared to recipes that generations of British families would recognise at once. And around you, aisle after aisle of imported groceries — the teas, biscuits, crisps, chocolate and sauces that taste of home, whether home is Leeds, Glasgow or just a childhood kitchen where the kettle never went cold.
We may be new to Scarborough, but we’re not new to this. Sixteen years, nine shops and a cabinet of awards have taught us exactly what a British shop in Ontario should be: warm, generous and utterly uncompromising about quality. Come and say hello — the east end has waited long enough.
Sitting on Rylander Boulevard in Scarborough’s east end, the shop is an easy stop for anyone across Scarborough and Toronto east, with parking on site so you can pop in, pick up a warm pie or a bag of groceries, and be on your way. It is built to be a quick, friendly local visit rather than a special expedition.
